Results day 2027 checklist

Results day is Tuesday 10 August 2027 in Scotland and Thursday 12 August 2027 for A levels. The students who do best in Clearing are the ones who prepared a plan B before they opened their results. Tick these off as you go.

In July

• Check you can sign in to your UCAS Hub, and that your email and phone number are up to date.
• Note your Personal ID.
• Make your back-up list: five to ten courses you would genuinely take, with the university’s Clearing phone number and the course code. Use our subject tables to compare them.
• Work out your UCAS points for the grades you expect and for one grade lower. Use the UCAS points calculator.
• Make sure you will be available on results day. If you will be away, tell your school and make sure you have phone signal and internet.
• International students: have your passport, English test result and proof of funds ready. See Clearing for international students.

The week before

• Remember the embargo: for about a week before results day, universities do not make Clearing decisions and some UCAS buttons are switched off.
• Prepare your call sheet with the Clearing call planner, and add your back-up courses to the call tracker.
• Find out when and how your school or college gives out results, and who will be there to help.
• Check the post-results review or appeal deadlines, in case you need them. See reviews and appeals.

The night before

• Charge your phone. Keep a pen, paper and your call sheet together.
• Write down your Personal ID and your UCAS login.
• Check the Clearing vacancy lists of the universities on your back-up list, as many publish them in advance.
• Get some sleep. Nothing can be done before the morning.

On results morning

1. Check your UCAS Hub first. In 2026 it updated from 08:00 on A level day and 09:00 on Scottish day. It may show your university decision before you see your grades.
2. Get your results from your school or college, or online.
3. If your place is confirmed, congratulations. Read what your university needs next, and sort out accommodation and finance.
4. If your Hub says you are in Clearing, find your Clearing number under “Application status” and start calling. See how to apply through Clearing.
5. If your firm choice has not decided yet, phone them. Near-misses are sometimes accepted.
6. If you have a changed course offer, you have five days to reply. Ask questions before you decide.
7. If your results are better than expected and you want to move, speak to the new university before you use “Decline my place”. See Decline my place.
8. If you think a grade is wrong, speak to your school or college about a priority review or appeal the same day.

On the phone

• Make the calls yourself. Parents can help you research, but UCAS says universities need to speak to you.
• Write down who you spoke to, what they offered and the deadline.
• Ask for any offer in writing, and do not add a Clearing choice until you are sure.

After results day

• Update your student finance with the right university and course.
• Apply for accommodation.
• Tell the university about any disability or support needs.
• Read every email from your university: some need a reply by a deadline.
