Clearing Plus: your Clearing matches

Clearing Plus is the UCAS matching service inside your Hub. If you are unplaced or have applied for the first time, a matches button shows up to 50 courses picked for you. Pressing “I’m interested” passes your details to the university, which may call you if it has space.

Who gets Clearing matches

UCAS says Clearing matches are only available if you are unsuccessful with your application or are applying for the first time. If you have applied direct to Clearing with no choices, you are still matched.

How the matches are chosen

UCAS uses your original choices, your qualifications and grades, what universities have told UCAS about the students they are looking for, and what students in Clearing went on to study in previous years. The matches are suggestions, not offers.

How to use it

1. Open your Hub and select the matches button (UCAS pages call it “My matches”, “View matches” or “See matches”).
2. Look through your top matches and filter out anything you would not want to study.
3. Press “I’m interested” on the courses you like. You can have up to five expressions of interest at any one time.
4. If the university still has vacancies and you meet its requirements, it may call you. UCAS says “you may not always receive a call”.
5. Do not wait by the phone: contact universities yourself as well.

Tips

• Treat matches as a starting list, then check each course on our subject tables and university profiles.
• Answer unknown numbers on results day and the days after: it may be a university.
• A call from a university is not yet a place. You still add it as your Clearing choice in your Hub once you have agreed.
