UCAS Tariff points
The UCAS Tariff turns grades in different qualifications into points, so they can be compared. An A* at A level is 56 points, an A is 48 and a B is 40.

- A levels AAB: 48 + 48 + 40 = 136 points.
- A levels A*AA: 56 + 48 + 48 = 152 points.
- Scottish Highers AAAAB: 33 × 4 + 27 = 159 points.
- BTEC Extended Diploma DDM: 128 points.
- T Level Merit: 120 points.
How universities use points
Many universities make offers in grades, such as AAB, rather than points. Some count only your best three A levels or Highers, or leave out qualifications that overlap. Universities set their own entry requirements, so always check the course page.
