How we compile and check our figures

Be EV Wise gives general information to help you compare electric, plug-in hybrid and hybrid cars sold new in the UK. It is not financial, legal or technical advice, and figures should always be confirmed with the seller.

The car data

Our list covers 184 versions of new cars on sale in the UK, compiled from published UK sources in September 2026. Pure EV figures come mainly from EV Database UK (ev-database.org/uk); plug-in hybrid electric ranges from Drive, What Car?, RAC Drive and Auto Express; hybrid prices are indicative bands. For each car:

• Guide price is the published list or guide price we found, and some prices may already include the Electric Car Grant.
• Range for fully electric cars is our typical real-world estimate, which is lower than the official WLTP figure. For plug-in hybrids it is the official electric-only figure.
• Battery chemistry is shown only where a source names it.
• Brand warranty is shown only where we are confident of it.
• Grant shows whether a version appeared on the published Electric Car Grant list when we checked.
• Reliability links to the Warrantywise Reliability Index rather than giving our own score.

Tax, grant and legal guides

Our guides on tax, the grant, the Congestion Charge and public charging are written from official sources, including GOV.UK, HM Treasury, the House of Commons Library, Transport for London and legislation.gov.uk. Each guide lists its sources, and the full list is on our sources page.

How often we check

Prices, ranges and the grant list change often. Each page shows when it was last reviewed, and changes to the rules are recorded on our recent changes page.
