Level 1 and Level 2 disclosure

Since 1 April 2025, Disclosure Scotland issues Level 1 checks (unspent convictions) and Level 2 checks for specified roles.

On 1 April 2025, under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020, Disclosure Scotland replaced the basic, standard, enhanced and PVG disclosure products with two levels. A Level 1 disclosure replaced the basic disclosure. It shows unspent convictions and any sex offender notification requirements, and individuals can apply for their own, often at an employer's request. A Level 2 disclosure replaced the standard and enhanced disclosures and is only available for specified roles, such as work with children or protected adults and some legal and financial jobs. It can show unspent convictions, certain spent convictions and other relevant information held by the police. For regulated roles, a Level 2 disclosure with PVG is used. People can ask for some spent convictions on a Level 2 disclosure to be reviewed.
