How we draft
Be Contract Wise is prepared by a retired solicitor qualified in England and Wales (LLB, LLM), with over 30 years' experience of international commercial law. This page explains how the app produces a contract, what is fixed and what is tailored, and how we keep it up to date.
Who prepares the content
The author holds law degrees at bachelor's and master's level (LLB, LLM). His career in commercial law spans more than three decades, including several years with the international law firm Lovells, work with other international law firms, and considerable in-house legal experience advising businesses directly. He designed the drafting approach behind Be Contract Wise, including the fixed wording used for the clauses where precision matters most, and prepared these guides.
He is retired from practice and remains registered with the Solicitors Regulation Authority. He is not acting for you when you use the app or read these guides, and they are not a substitute for advice on your own situation.
From your answers to a draft
You answer a short set of plain-English questions about your deal. The drafting engine uses your answers to write the commercial terms specific to you, and adds the standard provisions a competent contract of that type needs. Every clause comes with a plain-English explanation.
What is fixed wording
The provisions where precision matters most are not left to the drafting model. The app inserts fixed, reviewed wording for the governing law clause, the dispute resolution route you choose, the limitation of liability clause for your chosen cap, the counterparts clause and the execution blocks, and any clause you add from the clause library.
Numbering, cross-references and checks
The app numbers every clause and sub-clause itself, and resolves cross-references at the last moment, so references stay correct when clauses change. Before export, an automatic check looks for undefined or unused defined terms, broken references to clauses or schedules, and placeholders still to complete.
Keeping the law current
The drafting instructions and these guides are reviewed against legislation and official guidance. Changes that affect the drafting are recorded on the recent changes page. This material was last reviewed on 24 September 2026.
What the app does not do
Some documents may only be prepared by solicitors and other authorised practitioners. The app therefore does not prepare deeds, leases of more than three years (or at a premium or below market rent), Land Registry documents, legal charges or other security documents. Where you need one of these it prepares heads of terms or points you to a solicitor instead.
Be Contract Wise provides legal information and draft documents, not legal advice. It does not know everything about your circumstances.
